According to a report by the POSTREPORTERS, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, addressed the recent Christmas Eve killings in Plateau State, emphasising that the violence was not driven by religious animosity.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Intensive Vocational Course organised by the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN)-A-Zone in Bauchi, the Sultan expressed concern about the recurring loss of innocent lives and destruction of property.
He stressed the importance of proactive strategies by the country’s security apparatus to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Sultan urged security agencies to enhance intelligence gathering to effectively combat insurgency, banditry, and kidnappings.
He emphasised that attributing these acts to any particular faith is misleading and urged for a collective effort to stop such narratives.
Furthermore, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III pointed out that the ongoing insecurity in Nigeria is linked to leadership, both political and military.
He called for continued confidence in the leadership, expressing optimism that positive changes could occur in the coming months.
In addressing the spate of violence, the Sultan highlighted the devilish nature of such killings and emphasised the need to disassociate them from any genuine religious teachings.
He encouraged support for leaders and urged citizens to work together to bring about positive transformations in the country.
The Sultan’s remarks aimed to shed light on the root causes of the Christmas Eve tragedy and promote unity in addressing the challenges facing Nigeria.
