Amanda Uchechi Ugo, of Umumbiri in the Ahaizu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, claimed that she shot Police Corporal Cosmas Ugwu in his chamber at the Area Command Barrack, Ezinihitte-Mbaise, following a heated disagreement that descended into violence.

According to Amanda, she grabbed the Police Corporal’s revolver, with breach number 5199225, during the scuffle and fired three shots at his chest and hand. She said she acted in self-defense, as he was trying to strangle her.

According to The Nation, The police spokesman, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident on Friday, saying that the operatives of the area command heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene, where they found Corporal Ugwu lying on the floor in his room, bleeding profusely from his gunshot wounds.

He said: “On Tuesday, 26/12/2023 at about 1832hrs, Operatives of Ezinihitte-Mbaise Police Area Command, heard three gunshots emanating from the Area Command’s Barracks and tactically maneuvered to the scene where they met Corporal Cosmas Ugwu ‘m’ in his room with gunshot injuries on his chest and hand, lying helplessly on the floor in his pool of blood.
