Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun, have napped a kidnapper disguised as a scavenger who abducted an eight-year-old girl in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
The suspect, posing as a scavenger, abducted the girl, placing her in a sack after striking her with a suspected charm. The situation took a turn when the girl began crying, alerting her grandmother, who raised the alarm.
Amotekun personnel quickly responded to the scene and arrested the alleged kidnapper.
The victim’s father, Mr. Bose James, recounted the incident, stating, “My daughter came out to use the toilet, and her cries attracted my mother’s attention, who found out that a person we initially mistook for a scavenger had kidnapped and concealed her inside a sack.”
James further explained that the kidnapper attacked anyone attempting to rescue the child but was restrained until Amotekun operatives arrived.
Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the State Commander of Amotekun, elaborated on the arrest, noting that the girl’s cries drew the attention of residents. The suspect, pretending to be a scavenger, attempted to flee with the girl, prompting the grandmother to raise the alarm.
Amotekun operatives intervened, preventing the suspect from being harmed by residents.
Adeleye revealed that the suspect confessed to being involved in kidnapping, and investigations are ongoing before handing him over to the court. Fortunately, despite sustaining injuries from the attack, the eight-year-old victim is mentally stable and responding well to treatment.
Adeleye cautioned parents to be vigilant, emphasising that some scavengers may be potential threats. He urged the public to provide timely information and reassured residents of the state’s safety. The Amotekun Corps remains committed to ensuring the security of lives and property in Ondo State.
