The coronation process for the Olubadan designate is poised to begin following the conclusion of a 21-day mourning period, during which residents have continued to gather at his Alalubosa residence and ancestral home in Itabaale Olugbode, Ibadan.
Prior to the burial of Late Oba Lekan Balogun on Thursday, the Olubadan Advisory Council, led by Otun Olubadan High Chief Rasidi Ladoja, held a closed-door meeting.
While there exists a traditional protocol for electing a new monarch, subject to the approval of Governor Seyi Makinde, the Council must convene to deliberate on the nominee.
A palace insider revealed, “We are awaiting Governor Makinde’s return. He will issue directives through the Ministry of Local Government to initiate the process.
The Advisory Council will convene after the 21-day mourning period, in accordance with tradition.”
Meanwhile, traditional drummers and praise singers continue to entertain residents at the Olubadan designate’s Alalubosa private residence and ancestral home in Ita Baale.
Security measures have been relaxed in Alalubosa GRA compared to previous times, with police, Directorate of State Services personnel, and National Defence Security Corps deployed at both locations.
