The Executive Chairman of Oyo State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Olufemi Awakan, has pledged the continuous relationship with the Joint Tax Board to enhance tax collection in the state.
The Chairman made the pledge while hosting the Secretary of the Joint Tax Board (SJTB), Mr. Olusegun Adesokan,who was on a familiarization visit to the Revenue Building House, Secretariat, Ibadan.
Awakan appreciated the Secretary for identifying with Oyo State Internal Revenue Board, saying that their relationship will continue to get stronger every day.
Earlier, the Secretary JTB, Mr.Olusegun Adesokan congratulated the Executive Chairman and Management of the OYIRS for the significant increase in Internally Generated Revenue achieved over the years.
He said that the primary aim of the visit was to strengthen the existing relationship between the OYIRS and the JTB.
He also briefed the Executive Chairman of OYIRS on the current engagement arrangements with identified stakeholders of the JTB, including CAC, NGF, OAGF, NIMC, NIS, NCS, and NPF, among others.
He also highlighted achievements from these engagements, such as access to expatriate data, acceptance of the JTB TIN on the Nigeria Customs Service E-Auction Portal, and the e-virtual learning sessions for members organized in collaboration with the NGF.
While addressing questions and comments regarding the efforts of JTB in ensuring the availability of data/information for tax purposes, the involvement of the JTB in the work of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee and the outstanding PAYE remittances of employees of Federal Agencies due to the States, the Secretary, elaborated on the JTB F.I.V.E initiative, representing a four-pillar vision for the Joint Tax Board, focusing on Foresight, Innovation, Vision, and Efficiency.
Similarly, the secretary JTB, also visited the Commissioner of Finance, Mr. Ojo Akinola in which, he assured the JTB of his support and promised the Board of the readiness of Oyo State to host the JTB meeting in the first quarter of 2025.
He promised to ensure that all outstanding levies owed by Oyo State are cleared as soon as possible.
The Commissioner concluded by assuring the OYIRS of his commitment to supporting the achievement of professionalism and autonomy of the OYIRS to enhance revenue generation for the State.
The visit to Oyo State resulted in productive outcomes, indicating significant potential for enhanced collaboration between the JTB and the state to boost revenue generation.
