Prior to the 2023 General elections that produced Siminalayi Fubara as Governor of Rivers State, he was on May 2022 declared wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). as the state Accountant-General for N435 billion fraud.

He was declared wanted alongside 58 others.

BEYOND AFRICA gathered that The Governor, and four other Rivers State government officials, among others as at then are wanted for suspected N117 billion fraud, alleged criminal conspiracy, money laundering, misappropriation of public funds, and abuse of office.

Recall that Fubara recently vowed to probe the administration of his predecessor now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

He claimed that Wike was still owing some contractors on projects executed during his administration.

Meanwhile, according to sources, Fubara helped Wike to diverted the money and that was used in financing his governorship election.

During the cause of the investigation in 2022 before becoming Governor, The Commission’s Head of Media and Publicity of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, called on the general public to assist in apprehending the Accountant-General and other suspects.

According to Uwujaren, “We call on anyone with useful information as to the whereabouts of the Account-General to contact any of the Agency’s offices or the nearest police station or other security agencies.”
