Public Secondary School Students in Oyo state have been sensitized on the effects of drug abuse and expected roles to be played to curb the menace in the society.
The Director, International Veterinary Vaccinology Network (IVVN), Dr. Funmilayo Afolayan, lamented that drug abuse among youths had become rampant in recent times, just as she charged the students not to engage in drug abuse for any reason.
Speaking further on Wednesday at Isale Oyo Community Grammar School, Oyo, Dr. Afolayan, said its became imperative for the students to believe in their abilities and work towards attaining their goals.
According to her, “Drug abuse may lead to social, physical and emotional problems including psychological effects which could eventually lead to wild mood swings, depression, anxiety, paranoia, crime, illness, lost opportunity, and reduced productivity.”
She called on the students to avoid distractions while in school and seek help from the appropriate quarters to prevent unforeseen circumstances.
Dr. Afolayan, however, appealed to both the federal and state governments to look into the state of science laboratories in public secondary schools in the country, saying that access to more laboratory equipment by the students would assist the organization to further achieve project objectives.
Speaking on the topic” Drug Abuse and Cyber Crime”, Mr. Femi Afolayan, submitted that consumption of alcohol and other harmful substances destroy human organs gradually, particularly the liver and kidney; hence, there is a need for the students not to yield to pressure from their peers nor be curious to have a taste.
He advised them not to associate with the internet fraudsters but take advantage of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) and develop themselves academically.

Commended the Oyo State Government and facilitator for the initiative, urging other able Non-Governmental Organizations to emulate the International Veterinary Vaccinology Network.
Other beneficiary schools were Abiodun Atiba Memorial Institute, Kosobo, Oke-Olola Grammar School, Oke – Olola High School, all in Oyo town and Oladokun Grammar School, Awe .
