The University of Ibadan’s management has queried two students involved in the recent protest against fee hike that held at the Trenchard hall of the institution during the inauguration ceremony of the current Students Union executives on Monday, May 13, 2024.
The duo involved are Aduwo Ayodele, a 200 level student in the Department of History and Olamide Iyanuoluwa, a postgraduate student in the Department of Institute of African Studies.
The letter, signed by the Deputy Registrar (Students) Mr. T.I. Musa, accused them of gross misconduct acts, unruly behaviour in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor and demanded response from the duo within 48 hours.
“At this event, Olamide Gbadegesin Iyanuoluwa, Nice Linus, Adeyeye Oluwafemi (an unknown person), and Aduwo Ayodele carried placards with scandalous inscriptions against school fee increments.
“If this allegation is true, your actions constitute an act of gross misconduct, particularly unruly behaviour in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor and other members of the university management.”
In a copy of the letter delivered to the students on Monday, May 27, 2024, and made available to UCJUI, the management also threatened to suspend the studentship of these students if they fail to respond to the queries within the 48 hours ultimatum given to them to send in their defense against why disciplinary actions should not be taken on them on account of the allegation.
“Please forward your response with supporting documents, if any, to the Deputy Registrar (Students) within 48 hours of the receipt of this letter, stating why disciplinary action should not be taken against you on account of this allegation.
“Failure to respond to the query within the period stipulated above and/or deliberate release of false information constitutes an act of misconduct which may result in the automatic suspension of your studentship,” the memo concluded.
