Members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun chapter, has insisted that the students community in the state would not be part of any planned nationwide protests.
The students which included members of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), staged a solidarity walk on Wednesday within Abeokuta metropolis in the interest of peace and unity.
Mr Francis Adeyanju, NANS Chairman, noted that the association was not against any group protesting over current economic hardship in the country.
Adeyanju explained that the students in the state had declared their intention not to be part of any protest
He urged the students not to join any protest and to shun any calls to participate in anyone under the guise of nationwide protests.
“We want to caution the planners of such protest that it could be hijacked by the hoodlums to perpetrate looting, robbery, vandalisation of both public and private infrastructure.
“As Nigerians, the bitter experience of the EndSARS protests is still lingering in our memories.
“Therefore, to avoid the replay of the wanton destruction that accompanied the EndSARS protests, we call on students in Ogun to stay away from the nationwide protests,” he said.
Adeyanju noted that it was always the best to adopt constructive and interactive approaches to address issues.
Also speaking during the walk, Kehinde Thomas, NAOSS President, said that leadership of students in the state would not participate in activities that would lead to violence and destruction.
He lauded Gov. Dapo Abiodun for his reasonable approach to issues and masses friendly policies.
Thomas urged Gov. Dapo Abiodun to use his position as the Chairman of the Southern Governors Forum to rally his colleagues against the planned nationwide protests.
He called on Nigerians to be more hopeful and prayerful , saying that the protest was needless at the moment.
