Dear Sir/Madam,
*Subject: Demand for immediate reconnection of electricity to: Amole street ,African church grammar school road Apata-Ganga, apology and payment of fifty million naira compensation as Redress Regarding Prolonged Power Outage*
I am writing to formally appeal and notify your esteemed company of our intention to seek redress concerning the prolonged power outage experienced by residents along African Church Grammar School Road, particularly as it affects me as a resident, whose law office is also situated in the aforementioned affected area.
For over two years, the entire street has been subjected to an unjustifiable and continuous power outage, significantly impacting the quality of life and well-being of all affected residents.
Despite numerous complaints and attempts to address this issue with your office, no satisfactory resolution has been provided. This situation not only violates our rights as consumers but also contravenes several relevant provisions of Nigerian law.
*1. *The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Act 2005**
According to the NERC Act, specifically sections 32 and 33, the electricity distribution companies are mandated to provide a continuous supply of electricity and to ensure prompt resolution of service disruptions. The failure to provide power for such an extended period without lawful justification is a breach of these statutory obligations.
*2. *The Consumer Protection Council Act*
This Act emphasizes the protection of consumers’ rights, including the right to access essential services such as electricity. Prolonged power outages undermine these rights and constitute a disregard for consumer protection standards.
*3. *The Electric Power Sector Reform Act (EPSRA) 2005*
EPSRA outlines the responsibilities of electricity providers to deliver reliable and efficient service. Persistent outages violate the commitment to maintaining service standards as prescribed by this Act.
Given the severity and duration of the power outage, I respectfully request the following actions:
1. Immediate restoration of power to African Church Grammar School Road in which my house is situated.
2. A formal explanation and justification for the prolonged outage.
3. Compensation of fifty million naira for the inconvenience and losses incurred due to the lack of electricity.
Should these issues not be addressed promptly within period of fourteen days from the date of the receipt of this letter, we will have no choice but to seek redress through the appropriate legal channels to enforce our rights and obtain the necessary remedies.
We trust that IBEDC will address this matter with the urgency it deserves and restore normalcy to our community.
