The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has revealed that the anti-graft agency uncovered how a religious sect in Nigeria is laundering money for terrorists. The Nigeria Customs Service has nabbed a 50-year-old man, Abdul-Rahman Ibrahim for his involvement in fraudulent activities and impersonation of the Comptroller-General of Customs and other high-ranking government officials. This was disclosed in a statement posted on the official X handle of the NCS on Wednesday. An Ikeja High Court has sentenced one Richard Saviour to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his wife’s niece and infecting her with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). The victim (name withheld) was aged 14 at the time the act was committed. During the trial the State Counsel, Mr. Ola Azeez, called three witnesses to prove the prosecution’s case while the convict testified in his own defence. Canada announces C$40 million ($29.8 million) in new funding to provide food, water, and other humanitarian assistance to Gaza. The funds will be allocated to international agencies including the World Food Program, UNICEF, and the World Health Organization, Global Affairs Canada says in a statement. Jordan condemns the “terrorist attack” on a military advance post just inside its border with Syria that killed three US military personnel and injured dozens, and says it is cooperating with Washington to secure its frontier.
