Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are currently at the Lagos head office of the Dangote Group, Daily Monitor reports. They are conducting a search on forex allocations to the company during the tenure of Godwin Emefiele as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesman, declined comments when contacted by TheCable. Governor of Ondo state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has explained his absence at the 8th-day prayer for the late former governor of the state, RotimiAkeredolu. The spokesman to Aiyedatiwa, Adeniyan Ebenezer, said the event has nothing to do with the governor or the government. Ebenezer said the organisers did not notify or invite anybody in government. He said: “This was an event organised by a group of followers of the late governor and even only a handful of his appointees were there.”

The National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has stated that electricity distribution companies (DisCos) require its approval before increasing tariffs. There have been media reports that Discos had concluded plans to hike electricity tariffs in the New Year. But Usman Abba Arabi, the spokesperson of the NERC, in a chat with THE PUNCH reiterated that the Commission has not approved any new electricity tariffs for any of the Discos within the Nigerian electricity supply industry. “No new electricity tariff has been approved. Former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, on Wednesday, shunned an invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission probing the N37.1bn allegedly laundered during her tenure in office through a contractor, James Okwete, Punch reports. The North Central Governors’ Forum (NCGF) has urged the Federal Government to get to the root of the perennial killings in Plateau State for lasting peace.
