The next Super Eagles head coach will be handed the responsibility to pick his own assistants, SCORENigeria has learnt.

This is against the usual practice where the NFF have appointed assistants for the Super Eagles coach.

It is understood that this move is to ensure there is harmony as well as loyalty in the technical crew as often appointed assistants have been known to try to undermine their principal.

The NFF plan to name a replacement for Jose Peseiro next month in time for two crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June.

Tuesday was the deadline for submission of applications from qualified coaches for the country’s top post.

SCORENigeria has already reported that besides the popular Emmanuel Amuneke, Salisu Yusuf and Daniel Amokachi have also thrown their hats in the ring.

Yusuf assisted Gernot Rohr for several years, while Amokachi was beside Stephen Keshi when Nigeria last won the AFCON in 2013 in South Africa.

The Eagles top position has also interested foreign coaches, like former Cameroon coach Antonio Conceicao.
